Authorities evacuated ten schools across Chandigarh and Mohali on Wednesday following bomb threats received via email. Classes were suspended immediately, and students were sent home as police secured the premises to prioritize safety.
Swift Security Measures
Several prominent schools in Mohali reported the threatening emails around 7:30 a.m., triggering a rapid response. Bomb disposal squads, anti-sabotage teams, auxiliary room protection (ARP) personnel, and senior police officers, including regional group officers (RGOs), deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), and superintendents of police (SPs), conducted comprehensive searches.
As a precaution, officials cordoned off the school campuses, declared a holiday for students and staff, and performed thorough inspections. No suspicious items have been discovered so far.
Police Official’s Update
SP City Mohali Dilpreet Singh stated, “At around 7:30 today, many prominent schools in Mohali received a threatening email. Our bomb disposal team, ARP team, anti-sabotage team, and police station forces, along with all RGOs, DSPs, and SPs, are on the field checking thoroughly. As a matter of precaution, we have cordoned off all these schools, given a holiday to the students and teachers inside, and are conducting searches. We haven’t found anything suspicious yet.”
Recent Pattern of Threats
These incidents follow bomb threat emails targeting multiple schools in Delhi the previous day, which prompted similar evacuations and security sweeps. Most such threats in Delhi over the past year have been hoaxes, yet schools adhere to rigorous protocols. In October 2024, over 200 Delhi schools received threats in one day, with more than 500 reported throughout the year.
This situation remains a developing story as investigations continue.
