Last season, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 scores. He had 14 different games in which he hit the 100-yard rushing mark (including the postseason).
With that, he entered the season as the +650 favorite.
But after Philly’s Week 1 win over Dallas, in which he tallied 60 rushing yards and one touchdown on 18 carries, Barkley dropped to fifth on the board at +1000.
To be fair, it appears to be less about what Barkley did and more about what a few rival running backs produced.
Baltimore’s Derrick Henry ran all over the Bills in Week 1 (18 carries, 169 yards, two TDs), and both San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey (22 rushes, 69 yards and nine receptions, 73 yards) and Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson (12 rushes, 24 yards and six receptions, 100 yards, one TD) had stellar days running and catching the ball.
Henry and Barkley spent much of last season dueling at the top of the OPOY oddsboard, before Barkley crossed the 2,000-yard rushing mark and essentially sealed the deal. Henry was far from a slouch, racking up 1,921 yards and 16 rushing TDs (tied for most in the NFL).
