In central Newfoundland, the town of Badger has broadened its evacuation order on Thursday, affecting dozens of homes as water levels in the Exploits River continue to climb. Residents in several neighborhoods are on high alert, preparing for potential further displacements due to the ongoing flood risk.
Affected Areas and Evacuation Details
The provincial government announced the expanded order late Thursday, targeting the following locations: Beothuk Street, Earle Street, Kinsman Drive, Main Street, Park Street, River Road, and Sheppard Street. Additionally, all even-numbered addresses on the north side of Badger Drive must be vacated. On Maple Street, properties with civic numbers from 34 to 76 and 33 to 99 are also included in the order.
Registration and Support for Evacuees
Those ordered to leave are directed to register at the Badger Community Centre located at 19 Maple Street. This step helps authorities coordinate assistance and ensure resident safety amid the rising waters.
Emergency Response Level
The Department of Justice and Public Safety reports that the province’s emergency operations centre is operating at Level 2, with full engagement from emergency partners to manage the situation. Residents can stay informed through updates posted on the Community of Badger’s Facebook page.
