Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has sharply criticized the Trump administration and congressional Republicans, highlighting how escalating prices and delays in healthcare relief are straining American households.

Rising Costs and Unmet Promises

Buttigieg recently shared his observations on X, stating, “Everywhere I go, people are talking about the same thing: the president’s failure to bring down prices and make life in this country more affordable.” He specifically called out increases in grocery and energy expenses as key examples of broken commitments.

In an appearance on Fox News, Buttigieg elaborated, “You know, this president took office promising that he was going to make life more affordable on day one.” He continued, “He said grocery prices would go down. They’ve gone up. Energy prices are up while he’s killing utility projects that would create more energy generation.”

Healthcare Policy Under Fire

Buttigieg also targeted congressional Republicans on healthcare issues, questioning, “A big issue in the midterms will be why did so many congressional Republicans vote to cut Medicare, while they were giving tax cuts to some of the wealthiest Americans, and why do they refuse to extend the tax credits that will help with everybody’s premiums going up?”

Mixed Results from Administration Initiatives

The Trump administration’s attempts to address living costs have elicited varied responses. Efforts in housing policy have received positive feedback, but initiatives related to food prices and inflation have faced significant pushback.

New dietary recommendations and remarks from Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on budget-friendly meals have drawn online criticism, with many arguing that the guidance overlooks the reality of climbing grocery bills. The White House has highlighted declines in egg prices and housing costs as evidence of advancement, yet prices for other essential foods continue to rise, and overall inflation exceeds the Federal Reserve’s target.
