Canada will resume commerce discussions with the US “when it’s acceptable,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney mentioned on Sunday, noting he didn’t have a urgent subject to handle with President Donald Trump.
Trump final month suspended the talks over an anti-tariff commercial issued by Ontario’s provincial authorities.
“We’re very busy with the way forward for Canada, and with new partnerships. There will likely be conversations with the president, most likely within the subsequent two weeks,” Carney instructed reporters on the sidelines of the G20 leaders’ assembly in Johannesburg. “We are going to re-engage when it’s acceptable.”
Carney reiterated that he was open to dialog.

“I don’t have a burning subject to talk with the president about proper now,” he mentioned. “When America needs to come back again and have the discussions on the commerce aspect, we can have these discussions.”
Canada needs a deal to decrease import tariffs on metal, aluminum and autos imposed by Trump.
