Chet Hanks, son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, finds himself stuck in Medellin, Colombia, after a passport mishap prevents his return to the United States.
Details of the Ordeal
In a candid Instagram video, the 35-year-old actor, known for his role in Running Point, recounts his recent travels. He first headed to Puerto Rico last week for his friend Max’s birthday party, where he enjoyed the festivities.
From there, Chet decided to extend his trip with a stop in Medellin to visit a friend named Taylor. Dressed in a black Los Angeles Dodgers cap, black shirt, and a heavy chain necklace, he shared the story with followers, starting with, “Ya’ll ready for story time?”
Passport Problems at the Airport
Chet explained that he traveled using his Greek passport as a dual citizen, opting not to use his soon-to-expire U.S. passport to avoid potential entry issues. However, drama unfolded at the airport.
“I go to the airport to check in [for] my flight three hours early,” he said. “This is an international flight. They tell me that if I’m using a foreign passport, I need a green card to get back into America.”
As a U.S. citizen, Chet does not possess a green card, leaving him “literally stuck in Colombia. I’m stuck in Medellin.”
Next Steps Uncertain
While acknowledging that “there’s worse places to be stuck,” Chet faces a dilemma. The nearest U.S. embassy to resolve the issue sits in Bogota, about an hour’s flight from Medellin. “I literally have no f–king idea what I’m gonna do, and the only embassy to get this s–t settled is in Bogota,” he stated. “Granted… I do not want to go to Bogota, so free me.”
