China introduced tariffs of as much as 42.7% on dairy merchandise from the European Union Monday, following the outcomes of an anti-subsidy investigation that started in August 2024.
In a press release by the nation’s Ministry of Commerce, China stated that EU subsidies for dairy merchandise had brought on “substantial injury” to China’s home dairy industries.
The tariffs are set to take impact on April 23, the ministry stated, and the charges could be decided by the quantity of “advert valorem subsidy charges” from the Customs Tariff Fee.
Tariffs vary from 21.9% to 42.7%, with firms “who cooperated with the investigation” seeing tariffs of 28.6%, and those who “didn’t cooperate” topic to the highest fee of 42.7%, in line with a press release from a Commerce Ministry official.
Merchandise that fall below the tariffs embody contemporary and processed cheese, in addition to some sorts of milk and cream.
Beijing final week sharply reduce its duties on pork imports and pig by-products from the European Union, with new tariff charges starting from 4.9% to 19.8% on dozens of European pork exports.
Earlier in September, China imposed short-term anti-dumping tariffs of as much as 62.4% within the type of money deposits on pork imports from the EU.
