Ex-Treasury Secretary and Harvard professor Larry Summers introduced plans Monday to step again from public commitments amid fallout from the discharge of emails between him and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The previous Clinton and Obama administration official had exchanged emails with the disgraced financier effectively after his 2008 responsible plea in Florida for intercourse crimes – and up till Epstein’s July 2019 arrest on federal youngster intercourse trafficking fees, a trove of paperwork launched by Republicans on the Home Oversight Committee revealed final week.
“I’m deeply ashamed of my actions and acknowledge the ache they’ve prompted,” Summers mentioned in an announcement, obtained by a number of shops.
“I take full accountability for my misguided choice to proceed speaking with Mr. Epstein,” he added.
