Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has summoned Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to the Pentagon for a critical meeting on Tuesday morning. The discussion centers on potential military applications of Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude.
Tense Negotiations Loom
A high-ranking defense official states, “This is not a friendly meeting,” signaling an anticipated confrontational atmosphere. While Anthropic describes the ongoing talks as “productive” and conducted in “good faith,” defense sources reveal that negotiations hover on the brink of collapse, with little progress achieved so far.
Neither the Department of War nor Anthropic has issued immediate comments on the matter.
Recent AI Fraud Allegations Escalate Tensions
Complicating the situation, Anthropic recently accused three Chinese AI firms of establishing 24,000 fraudulent accounts to exploit Claude’s capabilities. Officials describe this as the largest documented instance of AI model theft to date.
Elon Musk responded on X, posting, “Anthropic is guilty of stealing training data at massive scale and has had to pay multi-billion dollar settlements for their theft. This is just a fact.”
