At the United Nations, India’s Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish voiced strong objections to the rising trend of exploiting religious identity for political purposes.
Direct Critique of Pakistan’s Narrative
In a sharp address targeting Pakistan, Harish questioned allegations of Islamophobia. He spotlighted the persecution of Ahmadiyyas, the plight of Afghan refugees, and violations during Ramadan, urging a focus on real issues rather than fabricated claims.
Rebuke of OIC and India’s Pluralism
India also condemned the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation for issuing repeated, unsubstantiated charges. Harish underscored India’s pluralistic society, where Muslim communities fully engage in democratic life.
He called on the UN to promote inclusive societies worldwide, rooted in equality, dignity, and the rule of law for people of all faiths.
