The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has prepared a ₹1,258-crore budget for the financial year 2026–27, with the agenda now circulating ahead of the House meeting on March 24.
Revenue Growth and Infrastructure Focus
Councillors from all parties gear up for detailed discussions, holding internal meetings to scrutinize the proposals. The budget projects higher revenue, including boosted property tax collections. Officials base these estimates on the city’s financial strengths and development requirements.
Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar highlights the budget’s proactive stance. “The city has the potential to generate higher revenue, and targets have been set accordingly. Efforts will be made to ensure better implementation in the coming financial year,” he states. The plan prioritizes civic infrastructure upgrades and enhanced service delivery.
Councillors Prepare for Scrutiny
Senior Councillor Sham Sunder Malhotra notes that party discussions will evaluate target feasibility. “We will analyse each component of the budget and seek clarity on revenue projections,” he adds. Debates may address past performance and alignment with real-world conditions.
BJP Councillor Rohit Sikka emphasizes party focus on development priorities and fair fund distribution across wards.
Shiromani Akali Dal Councillor Rakhwinder Singh Gabria confirms active participation to voice concerns on civic matters. She criticizes the proposals, stating they offer little benefit to opposition wards due to insufficient allocations. Her party plans to raise this during the meeting.
Officials aim to balance revenue boosts with spending on vital services and projects. The House will finalize approval after thorough deliberations and councillor input.
