Manchester City and Manchester United are on a potential collision course for the FA Youth Cup final following the semi-final draw, which kept the rivals apart.
Semi-Final Pathways
Manchester United still needs to finish their quarter-final against Sunderland next week. City secured their semi-final spot with a victory over Everton on Friday evening.
If United advances past Sunderland, they will host Crystal Palace in the last four. City will welcome Blackburn Rovers at home. Semi-final matches must conclude by Saturday, April 11, with the final scheduled for Saturday, May 9.
League Rivalry Intensifies
The teams lead the Under-18 Premier League North, where City holds a two-point advantage with a game in hand. United claimed victory in last month’s derby clash.
The clubs last met in the Youth Cup final in 1986, when City triumphed 3-1 on aggregate. A rematch looms 40 years later.
City’s Dramatic Quarter-Final Win
City’s progression hinged on a contentious second-half penalty. Ademide Akarakiri appeared to win the ball cleanly against Xavier Parker, but Floyd Samba converted from 12 yards to open the scoring.
Everton’s frustration grew when Malik Olayiwola received a straight red card shortly after, reportedly for comments to referee Richie Watkins following a throw-in decision.
City capitalized on the numerical edge. Reigan Heskey curled in a superb second goal, and substitute Teddy Lamb tapped home the third.
