North Carolina football prepares for summer camp less than two weeks away, marking the start of Bill Belichick’s second season as head coach of the Tar Heels. After a 4-8 record in his debut year, off-field issues continue to dominate headlines, leading former star quarterback Marquise Williams to announce he will skip all games this fall.
Williams Announces Decision to Skip Games
Marquise Williams, who earned All-ACC honors during his four-year career at UNC and ranks sixth on the program’s all-time passing yards list, shared his decision on X. “I will not be attending any UNC football games this year!” he wrote. “The things I’m hearing man I would have never thought.” He included a broken heart emoji but offered no further details.
Williams resides in North Carolina and currently serves as quarterbacks coach at Louisburg College.
Program Faces Ongoing Scrutiny
Speculation centers on 73-year-old coach Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. During a recent interview promoting Belichick’s book “The Art of Winning — Lessons from My Life in Football,” Hudson drew attention for appearing to influence the former NFL coach’s responses. The moment went viral, raising questions about her role in his personal and professional decisions, including potential impacts on team operations.
Belichick recently added a third quarterback to the roster this offseason following the team’s underwhelming first year.
Team Leadership Responds to Criticism
North Carolina football general manager Michael Lombardi addressed the external pressures during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. “All during those stormy times, all during when the boat was getting capsized, when people were attacking us with fake rumors and fake stories all over — nobody’s corrected them yet, but that’s OK, we understand — our players hung together,” Lombardi stated.
