Matthew Kavanagh, one of three individuals facing first-degree murder charges in the death of a 42-year-old Spaniard’s Bay resident, returned to custody after police apprehended him for alleged bail violations.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary located Kavanagh in Pouch Cove early Sunday morning, breaching conditions imposed when released on bail in April. Those conditions included a strict curfew. He also remained under a probation order stemming from a 2022 offense.
Officers charged him with one count of failing to comply with a release order condition and one count of failing to comply with a probation order. Kavanagh appears in court on Monday.
Details of the Murder Investigation
Investigators link Kavanagh to the September 2024 fatal incident in Bay Roberts, alongside co-accused Terry Cole and Stephanie Noftall. Prosecutors charge all three with first-degree murder.
Noftall, granted bail like Kavanagh, faced re-arrest over the summer for similar alleged violations.
The accused maintain not guilty pleas, with their trial scheduled for October.
