The strikes retaliate against a suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque in Islamabad two weeks ago, which claimed at least 31 lives and wounded over 160 others. Islamic State took responsibility for the blast, marking the capital’s deadliest incident since the 2008 Marriott Hotel attack.
Additional recent assaults in northwest Pakistan prompted the military response.
