Pakistan launched precision strikes on seven militant camps and hideouts along the Afghanistan border, targeting groups blamed for recent suicide bombings.
Intelligence-Driven Operations
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed that security forces executed intelligence-based operations against bases linked to the Pakistani Taliban, its affiliates, and an Islamic State group. These actions addressed three attacks reported since the start of Ramadan last week.
Officials withheld specific locations and operational details to maintain security.
Response to Deadly Mosque Bombing
The strikes retaliate against a suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque in Islamabad two weeks ago, which claimed at least 31 lives and wounded over 160 others. Islamic State took responsibility for the blast, marking the capital’s deadliest incident since the 2008 Marriott Hotel attack.
Additional recent assaults in northwest Pakistan prompted the military response.
Tensions Rise Over Cross-Border Militancy
Pakistan accuses Afghanistan’s Taliban leadership of harboring militants on its territory. Relations between the neighbors deteriorate further amid ongoing border skirmishes.
