Punjab Police’s ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign against gangsters achieved significant success through Operation Prahaar-2, with raids conducted at 8,278 locations linked to wanted criminals over the past 72 hours. The operation aligns with directives to make Punjab gangster-free.
Launch and Scale of Operation Prahaar-2
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav initiated the 72-hour Operation Prahaar-2 to intensify efforts against wanted criminals. Senior officers from Punjab Police Headquarters oversaw the action across districts, deploying over 2,000 police teams and 12,000 personnel.
Key Results and Arrests
Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla reported that police rounded up 7,498 individuals statewide. Among them, 3,260 arrests occurred, including 135 proclaimed offenders.
Teams recovered 47 weapons, 4.8 kg of heroin, 3.6 kg of opium, 42,797 intoxicant pills, 68 kg of poppy husk, and Rs 30 lakhs in drug money.
Additionally, authorities made 1,450 preventive arrests, verified 2,788 persons, and released them after questioning.
DGP’s Commitment
DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed, “The ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ is a sustained campaign that will continue with full force until Punjab is completely cleansed of the gangster menace.” He noted the operation exceeded expectations and pledged its continuation until the state is gangster-free.

Ongoing Anti-Drug Efforts
The ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ anti-drug drive marked its 347th day, with 164 smugglers arrested and 11.9 kg of heroin, 344 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and Rs 4,700 in drug money seized. Total drug smugglers arrested now stand at 49,129.
As part of de-addiction initiatives, Punjab Police convinced 14 individuals to undergo rehabilitation treatment.
