Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to strike Ukrainian nuclear energy crops if Ukraine doesn’t stop its alleged assaults on the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear energy plant.

The Zaporizhzhya plant was seized by Russian troops shortly after the 2022 invasion. The ability’s six reactors had been shut down final 12 months attributable to ongoing combating. However it wants electrical energy to take care of essential security capabilities, like cooling its reactors.

The final high-voltage energy line to the Zaporizhzhya plant, which is at present solely cooled by electrical energy from diesel turbines, has been out of service since September 23.

“It is a harmful sport,” Putin mentioned on Thursday on the Valdai political dialogue membership in Sochi in Crimea.

The Ukrainians ought to consider their different nuclear energy crops, he mused. “What prevents us from reacting symmetrically?” the Russian president requested rhetorically.

He claimed that accusations from the Ukrainian aspect that Russia itself is firing on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear energy plant it occupies are nonsense.

The combating close to the plant means each Russia and Ukraine have been unable to restore the facility traces, which means the cooling system depends on eight diesel turbines.
