Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin stands by her boyfriend, ex-New York Rangers star Ron Duguay, as he fights stage 4 cancer. A heartfelt video shared by Duguay’s daughter Shay on Instagram captures family and friends rallying around him during treatment.
Touching Hospital Moments
The video features Palin, 62, tenderly feeding the 68-year-old former first-round draft pick in his hospital bed. It also includes a photo of the couple beaming together. The two have been in a relationship since 2022.
Cancer Diagnosis and Challenges
Duguay’s cancer originated in his colon over a year ago, resulting in the removal of his appendix and gallbladder. His daughters launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover travel, treatments, holistic care, and experimental options, surpassing the $50,000 goal with over $53,000 raised by Wednesday afternoon.
“I find it extremely hard asking for funds for all these costs I’m going through,” Duguay said. “Normally, I’m helping others.”
“Our dad has never been someone who asks for help…especially when it comes to money,” his daughters explained on the GoFundMe page. “He has always tried to handle everything on his own and didn’t want to burden anyone else with what he’s going through. But after many conversations as a family, we decided to create this fundraiser for him because we’ve seen firsthand the weight this battle has placed on him, both physically and financially. Because of his cancer, he hasn’t been able to work the way he normally would, yet he continues to fight with everything he has.”
Treatment Journey
After a near-fatal experience with prior treatment in Florida, Duguay relocated to Orange County, California. Rising cancer markers prompt consideration of international therapies. Shay detailed his regimen: Living Antioxidant Water, blood ozone therapy, IV vitamin drips, ivermectin, methylene blue, holistic methods, alongside City of Hope chemo and major surgeries on his liver and colon.
“I am going to do all the alternative along with the Western medicine,” Duguay stated. “What I am learning, I will be able to share with others.” He added: “I need to get better so I can help others.”
Ron Duguay’s Hockey Legacy
The Rangers selected Duguay 13th overall in the 1977 NHL Draft. He played eight seasons with the team, helping reach the 1979 Stanley Cup Final, and later served 12 years as an MSG analyst until 2018.
Palin on Their Relationship
The couple maintains a low profile on social media. In 2022, Palin praised their bond: “Ron is the first person that I’ve ever even talked to about a lot of this personal stuff. So it’s been helpful and refreshing to have Ron to talk to about not just politics, because he’s got more common sense in his little finger than the collective in DC, but just about life. He is French Canadian by birth but he has been here for decades. In a lot of ways he is more patriotic, more pro-America, more pro-freedom than a lot of people I know, and that includes a lot of politicians serving America.”
