Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe will accompany Prime Minister Mark Carney on a trade mission to India, departing Thursday and running through March 7. The Canadian delegation plans meetings in New Delhi and Mumbai to strengthen economic ties.
Second Joint International Trip
This marks the second time Moe travels with Carney. In January, they visited China together, securing a deal that lifted tariffs on Canadian canola exports. In return, Canada agreed to import 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles.
Additional Participants
Moe is not the only premier involved. New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt will join Carney, Moe, and federal officials for discussions in Mumbai but will skip New Delhi. Floor-crossing MP Matt Jeneroux will accompany Carney on the extended itinerary covering India, Australia, and Japan.
Focus on Canola Tariffs
India currently imposes tariffs on Canadian canola products, which likely drives Moe’s participation in the mission. Moe and Holt will conclude their involvement after India, as the delegation continues to Australia and Japan.
Moe plans to discuss his role during a news conference on Wednesday.
