Saskatchewan RCMP urges residents to stay vigilant against a phishing scam circulating via email, posing as official provincial violation tickets.
Reports emerged on Friday of multiple individuals receiving deceptive messages purporting to originate from the Saskatchewan Fine Collection Branch. These emails feature fabricated ticket numbers, fine amounts, payment deadlines, transaction guidelines, unsubscribe options, contact details, and a Provincial Court Services copyright notice.
Scam Details and Risks
Authorities confirm the contact information matches legitimate sources, but the ticket data and payment links are fraudulent. Clicking these links or submitting payments could expose personal information to criminals.
Prevention Strategies
Protect yourself by scrutinizing sender addresses for errors or odd domains. Avoid links from unsolicited emails. Remain alert to red flags, including pressure tactics or vague salutations.
How to Report
Forward suspicious emails to local detachments, RCMP offices, or Crime Stoppers. Victims and witnesses should also notify the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre to aid investigations.
