Authorities in three British Columbia communities investigate four separate pedestrian collisions over the past week, resulting in two fatalities and two serious injuries.
Fatal Crashes in Surrey
Two women lost their lives in distinct vehicle-pedestrian incidents in Surrey, occurring roughly 13 hours apart.
An 81-year-old woman succumbed to injuries Wednesday evening after a vehicle struck her near the intersection of 138 Street and 102 Avenue around 6:30 p.m. PT.
Approximately 13 hours later, at about 7:30 a.m. PT Thursday, a 45-year-old woman died following a collision near 104 Avenue and 132 Street.
Investigators confirm both drivers remained at the scenes, with no evidence of impairment as a contributing factor in either case.
North Vancouver Hit-and-Run
Police seek the driver responsible for striking a person in a wheelchair in a hit-and-run on February 5. The incident occurred in a crosswalk at West 3rd Street and Bewicke Avenue, leaving the victim with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials released video footage showing the suspect vehicle, identified as a grey sedan.
Nanaimo Dragging Incident
A woman survived being dragged a short distance by a vehicle Tuesday evening along Applecross Road near McRobb Avenue around 5:45 p.m. PT. The driver promptly stopped and summoned assistance.
Nanaimo Const. Gary O’Brien stated, “Police learned that the victim had become trapped underneath a pickup, described as a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.”
Authorities urge anyone with details on these incidents to come forward and contact local police.
