A district judge sentenced a 17-year-old driver to three to 20 years in prison for causing the death of a 10-year-old boy in a wrong-way DUI crash on a Nevada highway.
Henrry Norberto pleaded guilty in February to a charge of DUI resulting in death. Last June, he drove a Ford pickup truck the wrong way into oncoming traffic on Interstate 15 near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His vehicle struck a truck occupied by Brandon Martinez, 10, and his father, Glenn Martinez. Brandon succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Harsher Penalty Than Plea Recommendation
Prosecutors and Norberto’s defense team had jointly recommended a sentence of three to 15 years under the plea agreement. However, District Judge Mary Kay Holthus imposed a longer maximum term.
The judge noted her usual respect for negotiated pleas but emphasized the severity of this incident. “It’s too big,” she stated. “He’s too young.”
