Following final yr’s acclaimed work, F**king Legend author and performer Olly Hawes makes a return to Riverside Studios this winter with Outdated Fats F**ok Up – a darkly humorous, half autobiographical exploration of masculinity, fatherhood and arriving on the brittle edges of center age with desires unfulfilled.
At its core, the one man story follows an exhausted father, buckling below monetary and societal strain and dwelling along with his companion and two children in a cramped ex-council maisonette. Informed with each humour and tenderness, however shot by a grim, unflinching streak of one thing uncooked and unsettling, the play culminates in a shattering act of violence towards his son that forces brutally sincere questions of accountability and what it means to be a father or mother – and a person – on this planet right this moment.
Without delay each private and sharply political, Outdated Fats F**ok Up confronts center age, parenthood, class and generational divides with wit, rage and honesty. A partly (although actually not totally) autobiographical hybrid of storytelling, stand-up and uncooked confession, which blends reality and fiction, and infused with the darkly fantastical, the present interrogates the pressures that form male id, exposing the hole between who males are, who they hoped to be, and who they’re instructed to change into.
Overarchingly, the story explores the delicate efficiency of masculinity – how males current completely different variations of themselves at house, on the street and in wider tradition – and the implications when that efficiency collapses.
Olly’s earlier present F**king Legend, may also be carried out at Riverside Studio for a restricted run of 4 nights.
