In December 2025, the Philippine electricity grid saw an overall improvement in power supply, yet regions in Visayas and Mindanao experienced tighter conditions that drove up electricity prices, according to the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP).
Grid Supply Enhancements
The average system-wide supply increased to 20,233 megawatts (MW) during the month, marking a 1.2 percent rise compared to November. This uptick reflects broader efforts to stabilize the national power infrastructure amid seasonal demands.
Regional Challenges
Despite the national gains, supply constraints persisted in Visayas and Mindanao, contributing to elevated costs for consumers in those areas. IEMOP officials noted that these regional pressures stemmed from localized generation shortfalls and increased reliance on more expensive power sources.
Stakeholders in affected regions, including local businesses and households, have called for targeted interventions to address these disparities and prevent further rate hikes in the coming months.
