Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam to distribute land ownership documents to tea garden workers and release the 22nd installment of the PM Kisan scheme. He inaugurated key infrastructure projects worth over ₹19,577 crore aimed at enhancing connectivity and commerce in the state.

Major Infrastructure Projects Unveiled

The Prime Minister dedicated and laid the foundation for 13 projects across hydrocarbons, power, shipping, railways, and other sectors during an event at Jyoti Bishnu Antarjataik Kala Mandir. Attendees included Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Highlights include the 120 MW Kapili Hydroelectric Project valued at ₹2,320 crore, the ₹298 crore Ekta Mall at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, and the expansion of the Numaligarh-Siliguri product pipeline from 1.72 million to 5.5 million metric tonnes.

Other initiatives feature the first phase of the North East Gas Grid, the Rail Fed POL Terminal at Panchgram, electrification of railway lines from Chaparmukh-Dibrugarh, Rangia-Murkongselek, Badarpur-Silchar, and Badarpur-Churaibari, as well as a 1.43-km ropeway from Kamakhya Junction to Kamakhya Temple costing ₹201 crore.

Modi also performed the Bhumi Pujan for the Regional Centre of Excellence in Bogibeel and launched cruise terminals at Neamati and Biswanath Ghat to promote Brahmaputra river tourism. An elevated road connects Pandu Port Complex to NH-27.

Chief Minister Praises Transformative Developments

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called the event a historic moment for Assam, noting the privilege of hosting the Prime Minister for these transformative projects. He highlighted the PM Ekta Mall’s role in promoting the One District One Product initiative and strengthening connectivity, commerce, and local enterprises.

Sarma emphasized the 22nd PM Kisan installment as a key step for farmers’ welfare and commended the distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers. He credited Modi’s leadership for advancing Assam’s development goals.

The Chief Minister outlined state achievements, including ₹5.18 lakh crore in investment proposals from Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, 1.65 lakh government jobs for youth, Orunodoi scheme benefits for 40 lakh women, and entrepreneurship support for 32 lakh women via Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. The Eti Koli Duti Paat scheme has aided seven lakh tea garden workers.

Future Economic Corridors and Vision

Plans for three economic corridors include the Silchar-Guwahati link, with construction launch scheduled soon, alongside Srirampur-Guwahati and Guwahati-Tinsukia routes. Sarma stated that Modi’s support turns Assam’s dreams into reality, fostering peace and development.

Aligning with the vision of Amrit Bharat by 2047, Assam aims to become a leading state. Dignitaries present included Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, and various state ministers and legislators.
