Formula One has postponed the Bahrain Grand Prix and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix originally scheduled for April amid the escalating situation in the Middle East. The decision also affects Formula 2, Formula 3, and F1 Academy rounds, with no alternative dates arranged at this time.
Iran Affirms Strait of Hormuz Open to Most Nations
Iran maintains that the Strait of Hormuz remains accessible to ships from all countries except the United States and Israel, following recent US strikes on military targets at Kharg Island, a key oil facility. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized the route’s operational status during an interview.
“As a matter of fact, the Strait of Hormuz is open,” Araghchi stated. He clarified that limitations apply solely to vessels from nations Iran considers hostile. “It is only closed to tankers and ships belonging to our enemies – those attacking us and their allies. Others are free to pass,” he added.
Araghchi noted that some vessels opt to avoid the strait due to security concerns but stressed this stems from external factors. “And I can say that the Strait is not closed, but it is only closed to American, Israeli ships and tankers, and not to others,” he said.
Iran Criticizes US Security Measures
Iranian officials describe the US security presence in the region as ineffective, claiming it invites rather than prevents conflicts. Sources indicate the US seeks assistance from various nations, including China, to secure the strait.
Iran urges neighboring countries to remove foreign military forces, particularly those prioritizing interests tied to Israel.
