Delhi Police have arrested 34-year-old Uber driver Sachin Choudhary for allegedly molesting and criminally intimidating a female passenger in Rohini. The accused, a resident of Badli village with a prior involvement in a dowry death case, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
Details of the Incident
On March 14, a 32-year-old woman lodged a complaint accusing the Uber driver of misconduct. The incident occurred on March 12 around 1:48 PM when she booked a two-wheeler ride from her home to MP Block Market in Pitampura, sitting as a pillion rider.
Near Sector-13 Dividing Road on KNK Marg, the driver began touching her inappropriately. When she resisted, he threatened her not to raise an alarm before dropping her near FU Block in Pitampura. Police promptly registered a case.
Investigation and Arrest
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shashank Jaiswal stated that a team from KNK Marg Police Station, led by Station House Officer Inspector Pramod Anand and supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Prashant Vihar) Ramphool Meena, launched a swift investigation.
“A dedicated team comprising Inspector Pramod Anand, Sub-Inspector Saurabh Malik, Woman Sub-Inspector Rinki, and Head Constable Sunil collected details of the Uber bike and traced the 34-year-old suspect,” DCP Jaiswal explained. The 10th-pass driver was apprehended during raids at his residence, and the motorcycle was seized.
During interrogation, Choudhary confessed to the crime. The court has placed him in judicial custody for 14 days, with further probe underway.
