OTTAWA — Nunavut MP Lori Idlout crosses the floor to join the Liberal Party, marking the third such defection in recent months.
NDP Expresses Disappointment
Interim NDP Leader Don Davies announced Idlout’s decision in a party news release issued Tuesday evening, just before 9:45 p.m. Davies stated the party feels “very disappointed” with her move.
Idlout’s Background and Parliamentary Impact
First elected in 2021, Idlout bolsters Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government. The party now holds 170 seats in the House of Commons, just two short of a majority.
This shift highlights ongoing volatility among MPs, as two others have similarly joined the Liberals recently.
