PAGUDPUD, Ilocos Norte — Members of an Indigenous Peoples (IP) community in Barangay Saguigui, Pagudpud, have started roasting their own coffee blend and plan to boost production this year.
Local Initiative Drives Expansion
The community initiative marks a significant step toward self-sufficiency in coffee processing. Officials highlight that this effort not only preserves traditional practices but also opens new economic opportunities for local residents.
Plantation Development Underway
Joegie Jimenez, environment representative for the Ilocos Norte government, confirmed that developers are expanding the coffee plantation by an additional 100 hectares in the region. This growth builds on existing efforts to cultivate high-quality coffee suited to the area’s terrain and climate.
The expansion aims to increase output, potentially supplying more markets while supporting sustainable farming among IP groups. Community leaders emphasize the importance of this project in empowering locals and promoting environmental stewardship.
