Tommy DeCarlo, lead vocalist for the iconic rock band Boston, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at age 60 following a courageous fight against brain cancer.
His family shared the heartbreaking news via a Facebook post. “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026. After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end,” they stated.
Medical Challenges and Support Campaign
DeCarlo’s loved ones initiated a GoFundMe campaign in September 2025 to offset his rising medical costs. By Monday afternoon, the effort had raised over $56,000. The page detailed a prior brain bleed that required an emergency craniotomy, during which doctors found two melanoma masses on his brain and an additional spot on his lungs.
Journey with Boston
DeCarlo joined Boston in 2007 after original frontman Brad Delp died by suicide. He later released a 2021 audiobook, Unlikely Rockstar — The Tommy DeCarlo Story, recounting his debut show with the band and his path forward.
The band’s signature sound shaped the 1970s and 1980s rock scene, featuring hits like “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Don’t Look Back,” and the No. 1 single “Amanda.”
The family ended their message with a plea for privacy: “During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another.” They added, “Rest in peace, Dad. With love, Annie, Talia & Tommy Jr.”
