Charles Shay, the final surviving Native American World Battle II D-Day veteran, died at his residence in France on Wednesday. A military medic, he patched up US troopers beneath heavy fireplace within the surf on the seashores of Normandy in 1944. He earned a Silver Star and three Bronze Stars. He was 101.
