Poo-dunnit?

Stray canines dwelling within the Chernobyl exclusion zone whose fur turned shiny blue seemingly bought their shade from rolling in a tipped-over porta-potty, in keeping with native animal volunteers.

The periwinkle pooches went viral in October after footage of three canines with blue fur had been shared on Fb by the Canine of Chernobyl program, which cares for strays dwelling across the website of the 1986 nuclear catastrophe in Ukraine.

Now one of many scientists behind this system, an affiliate of the non-profit Clear Futures Fund (CFF), has spoken out after rumors unfold that the hounds turned blue due to radioactive mutations.

“The preliminary reviews by CFF on TikTok sparked a flurry of social media commentary suggesting that this may be a response to the radiation within the area. Some even prompt radiation-induced mutations and a few type of evolutionary diversifications to the native atmosphere,” Dr Timothy A. Mousseau from the College of South Carolina was quoted as saying within the Canine of Chernobyl Fb publish.

“Nothing may very well be farther from the reality. In truth, the blue dye seemingly got here from a tipped-over porta-potty the place the canines had been rolling round within the poop as canines are susceptible to do (assume cat litter field!),” he added.

“The blue coloration was merely an indication of the canine’s unsanitary conduct! As any canine proprietor is aware of, most canines will eat absolutely anything, together with feces!” Mousseau stated.
