The U.S. has carried out what it known as “large-scale strikes” in opposition to ISIS in Syria, U.S. Central Command introduced Saturday afternoon.
The strikes, carried out at round 12:30 pm ET, had been a part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which the Pentagon mentioned was ordered by President Donald Trump on Dec. 19 in response to an ISIS ambush close to Palmyra on Dec. 13. That assault killed two U.S. troopers and a U.S. civilian interpreter, U.S. officers mentioned.
The army in December launched strikes in opposition to Islamic State group infrastructure and weapons.
CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins instructed NBC Information that greater than 35 targets had been struck in Saturday’s operation. Greater than 90 precision munitions had been fired, and greater than 20 plane had been concerned.
The army mentioned the strikes focused ISIS “as a part of our ongoing dedication to root out Islamic terrorism in opposition to our warfighters, stop future assaults, and defend American and associate forces within the area.”
“Our message stays robust: should you hurt our warfighters, we’ll discover you and kill you anyplace on the planet, irrespective of how onerous you attempt to evade justice,” CENTCOM’s assertion mentioned.
