The grand finale of India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations concluded with a spectacular Beating Retreat ceremony, featuring mesmerizing performances by military bands and a special tribute to Operation Sindoor.

President Droupadi Murmu led the distinguished gathering at Vijay Chowk, accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, and other senior government officials including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Special Highlights and Innovations

This year’s ceremony introduced several innovative elements, including illuminated performer attire and digital LED panels on musical instruments. The bands formed special formations depicting Operation Sindoor and paying tribute to the recently decommissioned MiG-21 fighters.

In a unique cultural touch, all spectator seating areas were named after traditional Indian musical instruments such as flute, tabla, sitar, veena, shehnai, mridangam, sarod, and santoor.

Musical Performances

Traditional Military Bands

The ceremony opened with the classic “Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja” performed by the Massed Band. The Pipes and Drums band followed with stirring renditions of “Atulya Bharat,” “Veer Sainik,” “Mili-Juli,” “Nritya Sarita,” “Maruni,” and “Jhelum.”

Service-specific Performances

The Indian Air Force band performed “Brave Warrior,” “Twilight,” “Alert,” and “Flying Star,” while the Navy band presented patriotic compositions including “Namaste,” “Sagar Pawan,” “Matrubhoomi,” “Tejasvi,” and “Jai Bharati.”

The Army band captivated audiences with “Vijayi Bharat,” “Aarambh Hai Prachand Hai,” “Ae Watan,” “Anand Math,” “Sugamya Bharat,” and “Sitare Hind.” The Central Armed Police Forces contributed with powerful renditions of “Vijay Bharat,” “Hathrohi,” and “Veer Sipahi.”

Grand Finale

The ceremony reached its pinnacle with the Massed Band’s performance of “Bharat Ki Shaan” and “Vande Mataram,” followed by the traditional “Drummer’s Call.” The event concluded with the timeless “Saare Jahan Se Achha” performed by the buglers.

As the sun set, the ceremony culminated with the lowering of the national flag and the playing of the National Anthem, while the Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, and Parliament building illuminated the evening sky.

Squadron Leader Lamapokpam Roopchand Singh conducted the entire ceremony, with individual conductors leading their respective service bands, creating a perfect harmony of military precision and musical excellence.
