PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR, Philippines — Rescuers have raised the death toll from the early Monday sinking of the MV Trisha Kerstin 3 off Basilan province to 37 as of Saturday.
Local authorities in Basilan confirmed the update following the recovery of three additional bodies during search operations on Saturday. Hadji Muhtamad Mayor Arsina Kahing-Nanoh stated that two of the recovered cadavers belonged to previously unidentified victims from the incident.

The maritime disaster occurred when the ferry encountered rough seas, leading to its capsizing. Search teams continue to scour the waters for any remaining missing passengers, with weather conditions complicating the efforts.
