The Lefant M3 Max stands out for its affordability, delivering reliable cleaning at a fraction of premium model costs. Priced at a recommended $440 but frequently available for around $350 through promotions, this robot vacuum with mopping capabilities provides solid performance for everyday use. It excels in homes with mostly smooth floors and minimal clutter, offering straightforward features without unnecessary complexity.

Design and Key Features

The Lefant M3 Max employs standard LiDAR navigation via a fixed laser tower, paired with a front-facing obstacle sensor spanning its width—though it lacks a camera for enhanced detection. It boasts a suction power of 20,000 Pa, competitive with higher-end devices that reach 25,000 to 30,000 Pa, though real-world effectiveness varies. The mopping system features two rotating pads that lift 9 mm but cannot lower or extend, while the side brush remains fixed.

The compact, square base station measures about 36 cm tall and handles dust bag suction, mop cleaning with 45°C water, and air drying. Its glossy plastic finish gives a basic appearance, and the shallow, transparent water tanks on top can spill during filling, though the removable base simplifies maintenance. Accessories include a cleaning solution bottle (added manually), spare dust bag, extra mops, and side brush, plus a quick-start guide.

Setup and App Control

Initial setup proves seamless, with quick pairing to the app and home Wi-Fi after account creation. The mapping process takes roughly 10 minutes and can run alongside cleaning. Basic map editing allows room merging, splitting, naming, and no-go zones, though options fall short of advanced competitors.

The app supports vacuuming alone or combined with mopping—no standalone mopping mode—with four suction levels and customizable room settings via mopping intervals. Carpet behavior and voice prompts (English only) are adjustable, and integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant works well. Overall, the interface remains user-friendly for essential tasks.

Navigation and Obstacle Handling

LiDAR enables methodical room coverage, though paths occasionally seem inefficient. It accesses most areas but struggles with narrow spaces and maintains excessive clearance from furniture, leaving uncleaned edges along baseboards. The device moves cautiously, extending cleaning times beyond faster rivals, and once required assistance to return to its charging station in a tight setup.

Without cameras, the 190-degree front sensor detects larger items reliably but misses slimmer ones like chair legs, relying on the bumper instead. It occasionally ingests small objects such as shoelaces, halting operation, and climbs flat obstacles without a dedicated feature—potentially risking long-term wear on items like swinging chairs.

Cleaning Performance

On smooth surfaces, the M3 Max removes dust and debris effectively. Short-pile carpets yield acceptable results with auto-boost detection, but longer piles resist full extraction of embedded particles like sand. Noise levels stay tolerable during runs, though the base station reaches about 80 dB at 1 meter distance.

Mopping Capabilities

Lacking an onboard tank, the robot starts wet post-station and dries progressively, suiting light dirt but not heavy stains. The 9 mm lift suffices for short carpets but fails on deeper ones, risking moisture transfer. For thorough results on tough grime, advanced roller systems outperform, though they command higher prices.

Battery Life and Efficiency

After covering 50 square meters at medium suction and 10-minute mopping intervals, 30% battery remains, supporting up to 60 square meters per charge—ideal for smaller spaces. Lower power extends runtime at reduced efficacy, with full recharges taking 3.5 hours. Daily use consumes just over 4 kWh monthly, including station operations and 1.5 W standby, highlighting its energy thriftiness.

For budget-conscious users seeking hassle-free floor maintenance, the Lefant M3 Max delivers dependable results without frills, making it a worthwhile option under $400.
