SANTA ANA — A 37-year-old Riverside resident received an 11-year prison sentence on Friday for a DUI hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a woman inside her Garden Grove home.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. on May 12, 2024, when a vehicle driven by Jadir E. Salazarmontano struck a residence in the 11800 block of Magnolia Street, between Chapman and Orangewood avenues. Janet Carillo, 40, became trapped under the vehicle inside her home and was declared dead at the scene by authorities.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Salazarmontano fled the scene after the collision, but witnesses directed police to his location. Officers apprehended him nearby without resistance.
On October 17, Salazarmontano entered guilty pleas to multiple felony charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08% or higher causing injury.
He also acknowledged enhancements related to fleeing the scene of the vehicular manslaughter and causing great bodily injury to the victim.
