The Denver Nuggets’ coaching staff, led by David Adelman, stands a strong chance of joining stars Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray at All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles. Recent results have boosted Denver’s potion in the Western Conference standings.
Recent Wins Shift Conference Landscape
Denver secured a 122-109 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, climbing to second place in the West. Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs fell 111-106 to the Charlotte Hornets, slipping to third. With a 33-16 record after nearly 50 games, the Nuggets trail only the Oklahoma City Thunder, who hold a 38-11 mark.
All-Star head coaches typically come from the top team in each conference before reserves are announced. However, Thunder coach Mark Daigneault coached the West last season, making him ineligible this year. This scenario potions Adelman as the leading candidate for the Western Conference All-Star head coaching role ahead of the February 1 deadline.
Impresve Leadership Amid Injuries
In his first full season as head coach, Adelman has guided the Nuggets through a challenging injury-plagued campaign. The team managed without three-time MVP Nikola Jokic for a month due to a hyperextended left knee. Starters Christian Braun, Aaron Gordon, and Cameron Johnson also missed multiple weeks with their injuries. Despite these setbacks, Denver remains a top contender, highlighting Adelman’s effective leadership.
Historical Milestone for Nuggets
If selected alongde Detroit Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff for the East, Adelman would achieve a notable honor. The last Nuggets coach to earn an All-Star nod was Michael Malone, who did so in 2023 and 2019 after leading Denver to the top of the West pre-break. George Karl also coached the All-Stars in 2010, the last time the Nuggets featured two All-Stars on the floor: Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups.
xteen years later, Denver eyes a repeat with Jokic and Murray as potential All-Stars and Adelman as coach. Official announcements for All-Star reserves and coaching staff will occur on February 1.
