MANILA, Philippines — Lawmakers in the House of Representatives are advancing a bill to enhance monthly cash grants under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), focusing on support for education, health care, and nutrition.
House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte First District Representative Ferdinand “Sandro” Marcos III highlighted the initiative, noting that the House Committee on Appropriations is prioritizing its passage. The proposed increase aims to provide greater financial relief to beneficiary families amid rising living costs.
Key Details of the 4Ps Enhancement Bill
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, a flagship poverty alleviation effort, currently offers conditional cash transfers to help low-income households meet basic needs. Under the bill, grants would expand to better cover essential expenses, ensuring sustained access to schooling, medical services, and nutritious meals for children.
Marcos III emphasized the urgency of the measure, stating that strengthening 4Ps will directly impact millions of Filipino families by bolstering their economic stability. The committee’s review process includes consultations with stakeholders to refine the proposal before it moves to the full House for deliberation.
Supporters argue that the adjustment aligns with ongoing inflation pressures, making the program more effective in reducing poverty rates across the nation.
