Public Inquiry Examines Family’s Mysterious Deaths

A formal examination into the deaths of four family members in Prince Rupert is now proceeding after weather-related delays postponed the proceedings. The inquiry will review the June 2023 incident where 35-year-old Janet Nguyen, her 38-year-old partner Christopher Duong, and their young sons Alexander (4) and Harlan (2) were discovered deceased in their Silversides Drive residence.

Non-Fault Finding Investigation

The provincial coroner’s office confirmed this judicial review will not assign blame but rather examine circumstances surrounding the incident. “Public inquiries serve to identify systemic issues and recommend preventive measures,” explained a justice official familiar with the process.

Delayed Proceedings

Originally scheduled for October 2023, the proceedings were rescheduled due to operational challenges related to extreme weather conditions affecting court operations. The current session is expected to continue through February 20th at the Burnaby Justice Center.

Presiding official Larry Marzinzik will oversee testimony from witnesses providing sworn accounts. A citizen jury will ultimately compile recommendations aimed at preventing similar tragedies after reviewing all evidence presented during the three-week inquiry.

Authorities previously stated there were no outstanding suspects connected to the incident, assuring residents there was no continuing public safety risk related to this investigation.
