New Infrastructure Project Aims to Ease Traffic Congestion
UDUPI – Construction work began Monday on a critical traffic improvement initiative at Kalsanka Junction, with local MLA Yashpal Suvarna overseeing the groundbreaking ceremony. The infrastructure upgrade focuses on widening the existing culvert over the Indrani rivulet to create a dedicated free left turn lane connecting Udupi city to Ambagilu.
Project Details and Funding
During the ceremony, MLA Suvarna confirmed the City Municipal Council has allocated ₹49 lakh for the project. “This long-awaited improvement will significantly reduce congestion along the Udupi-Manipal corridor of National Highway 169A,” Suvarna stated. Officials anticipate completing construction promptly to address chronic traffic bottlenecks.
Addressing Growing Transportation Needs
The junction has become increasingly congested as vehicle traffic between Udupi and Manipal continues to rise. As a vital connection point featuring access to the Sri Krishna Mutt Parking complex, the intersection requires upgrades to maintain efficient traffic flow. The new free left turn design aims to eliminate merging conflicts that previously slowed vehicle movement.
Former municipal council president Prabhakar Poojary joined several former council members in witnessing the project launch. Transportation analysts suggest the improvement could reduce peak-hour delays by up to 40% when completed.
