Delhi Leads Nation in Electric Bus Deployment
Delhi has claimed the top spot in India for electric bus fleets, reaching a total of 4,286 vehicles after inducting 500 new electric buses at Ramlila Maidan. This milestone surpasses Maharashtra’s fleet of 4,001 buses, positioning the capital as a leader in sustainable urban transport.
Official data ranks other states as follows: Karnataka with 1,989 electric buses, Gujarat with 1,041, Telangana with 875, and Uttar Pradesh with 874. Delhi’s achievement highlights its commitment to green mobility and reduced emissions.
Government Advances Green Transport Goals
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attributes this progress to the Delhi government’s proactive policies aimed at modernizing public transport, enhancing environmental sustainability, and improving accessibility. Over the past year, the administration has integrated numerous electric buses into the Delhi Transport Corporation fleet, lowering pollution while providing safer, more comfortable, and affordable options for commuters.
Gupta emphasized that the focus extends beyond fleet expansion to achieving better connectivity, zero-emission operations, and a forward-thinking urban mobility framework.
Celebrating Women-Led Development Milestone
During a ceremony marking the first anniversary of the BJP-led Delhi government, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and BJP National President Nitin Nabin flagged off the expanded electric bus fleet. Gupta commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for fostering women-led development.
“This is the wonder of PM Modi’s leadership: the women’s driver, the women’s secretary, and the women’s chief minister, where women-led development is possible in the country,” Gupta stated. “I am pleased that on 8th February, we are able to serve the people of Delhi, thanks to their trust and blessings. A large fleet of 4,000 EV buses has been handed over to the people of Delhi, making it the largest in the country. I am pleased that all our ministers and the entire government have been working for Delhi for 365 days.”
