A section of the railway overbridge on National Highway 45 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, collapsed during maintenance work near Shahpura, prompting traffic diversions to alternate routes. Police manage the flow to minimize disruptions, and no casualties occurred.
Traffic Diversions in Place
Authorities redirect vehicles from the affected highway section. Shahpura Police Station Incharge Pravin Kumar confirms smooth operations on alternate paths. “Vehicles have been diverted from the National Highway. Traffic is running smoothly. Due to the traffic blockage on the National Highway, we had to start the diversion,” he stated.
Police monitor the ground situation to ensure uninterrupted movement via detours.
Details of the Collapse
The incident happened earlier Sunday while work continued on the overbridge. Rakesh More, Divisional Manager of Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation, explains that the contractor’s liability period remains active, with no formal handover. Traffic previously operated on one portion only, but now the other section also sustained damage. “This took place near Shahpura on National Highway 45 during ongoing maintenance work. There was no handover since the contractor’s liability period has not expired. Traffic was operating only on one portion, and now the other portion has also been damaged,” More noted.
