A tragic shooting in Christian County, Missouri, claimed the lives of two sheriff’s deputies and injured two others during a routine traffic stop near Highlandville.
Initial Ambush
Deputies Michael Hislope and Gabriel Ramirez died in the line of duty when the suspect opened fire on them. The attacker fled the scene, prompting an immediate and large-scale manhunt involving more than 100 law enforcement officers.
Manhunt and Final Confrontation
Authorities tracked the suspect, identified as Richard Dean Bird, to a wooded area near Reeds Spring. Bird reportedly fired again, wounding two deputies and fatally shooting Hislope as he moved to aid the injured officers.
The intense gun battle ended with law enforcement neutralizing Bird.
