Pohang city officials implement timed one-way traffic on a narrow 4-meter-wide road frequented by popular figure skater Kim Hae-yeong, effective from March 3, to address safety risks during school commutes.
Safety Concerns Prompt Change
The road sees daily congestion as school vehicles mix with pedestrians, including students, while illegal parking exacerbates dangers. Kim Hae-yeong recently appeared running along this busy stretch, highlighting the hazards.
Authorities aim to secure safer passage for cheer squads and students through this trial measure.
Operation Details
The one-way system activates weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and runs until the end of July. Officials confirm the change stems from direct safety assessments at key access points.
A city spokesperson stated, “This step allows students to reach school safely.” The spokesperson added, “Ongoing reviews of the trial period will enable flexible adjustments to road conditions, including summer vacation periods.”
