India’s mission in Iran has relocated most Indian students from Tehran to safer areas due to the deteriorating security environment triggered by recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Student Evacuation Details

The Embassy of India in Tehran announced the move, citing a heightened risk perception in the capital. “Due to the heightened risk perception in Tehran city, the embassy of India has relocated most Indian students who were in Tehran,” the mission stated.

Arrangements for transportation, food, and accommodation have been provided for the students. A small number who declined the offer remain in the city.

Advisory for Remaining Nationals

For other Indian students and nationals still in Iran, the embassy advises them to stay in place, remain indoors when possible, and avoid windows. The latest guidance urges caution at all times, steering clear of protest areas or demonstrations, and maintaining contact with the mission.

Approximately 9,000 Indians, including students, are present in Iran, though the precise count of students remains unclear.

Escalating Regional Conflict

Tensions in West Asia have intensified after Iran responded with strikes on Israel and US military bases in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Iran also blocked the Strait of Hormuz, driving up global oil prices.

US military officials confirm six American personnel killed in the conflict. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reports at least 787 deaths from strikes in Iran, while Israel notes 11 fatalities.
