UPPSALA, Sweden — Swedish pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis cleared 6.31 meters (20 feet, 8 1/4 inches) to break the world record for the 15th time at the indoor Mondo Classic, a competition named after him and held at his training venue.
Duplantis previously set records at last year’s world championships and the Paris Olympics. He has raised his own mark by 1 centimeter with each successive break since 2020.
Unbeaten Streak Hits 38 Victories
This triumph extends Duplantis’s winning streak to 38 consecutive pole vault competitions, starting from August 2023.
Surpassing Legendary Feats
Sergey Bubka remains the only athlete to break the record more often, achieving 17 outdoor and 18 indoor marks in the 1980s and 1990s. In 2000, track and field’s governing body unified the records, permitting breaks indoors or outdoors.
Duplantis boasts three outdoor world titles and two Olympic gold medals.
Eyes Fourth Straight Indoor Crown
Duplantis heads to the world indoor championships in Poland next week, targeting a fourth consecutive victory in the event.
