Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar revealed that four individuals from Odisha attempted to bribe Congress MLAs with Rs 5 crore each to cross-vote in the Rajya Sabha elections, labeling it a new “Operation Kamala.” The legislators rejected the offers and promptly informed party leadership.

Details of the Alleged Bribe Attempt

Shivakumar stated that the four men approached Congress MLAs residing in Bidadi, promising Rs 5 crore apiece for cross-voting. “Our MLAs turned them away, refusing to engage in horse trading,” he said.

The group reportedly booked a room with assistance from a local resident named Suresh in Batarayanapura. After the approach, the MLAs alerted leaders. Two of the suspects fled, while the other two were detained and confessed to the intent, carrying blank cheques as evidence.

“This marks another phase of Operation Kamala, with AICC secretary and other leaders set to provide further updates,” Shivakumar added.

Legal Action and Party Preparedness

When questioned about pursuing charges, Shivakumar confirmed, “A complaint will definitely be filed, and the law will take its course.”

He addressed the encounter near the KPCC office and AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s Sadashivnagar residence, quipping, “Why would party MLAs meet the BJP president without seeing our party president?”

On upcoming state bypolls, he affirmed readiness: “We’re fully prepared with all reports compiled and leaders consulted.” Regarding the Davangere ticket dispute, Shivakumar dismissed any issues: “No confusion exists; all leaders agree to follow the party’s decision.”
