Placebo unveils ‘RE:CREATED’, a reimagined take on their 1996 self-titled debut album, alongside an extensive UK and European arena tour. The tour focuses on tracks from the band’s first two albums, including songs absent from live sets for over 20 years.
‘RE:CREATED’ Album Details
The updated album arrives June 19 through Elevator Lady Ltd via AWAL. It reworks all 10 original tracks plus two bonus cuts, drawing from the master tapes to infuse three decades of live evolution while preserving the raw energy of classics like ‘Nancy Boy’ and ‘36 Degrees’.
Placebo describes the project as a “director’s cut.” The band states: “We went back to the original master tapes and brought 30 years of playing these songs live back into the record. This project was about finally finishing the record, dragging it into the 21st century sonically, while preserving the integrity and the spirit of the original. It’s not about improving it, there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s about completing it.”
They add: “When we made the first album, we didn’t yet have the experience or the studio knowledge to fully translate what was in our heads. Over the years, the songs took on a life of their own on stage; they grew, they developed, they kind of completed themselves. It’s a celebration of where we began, and a meeting point between who we were then and who we are now. It’s a way of honouring that innocence, while letting the songs exist with the scale, confidence, and energy of the band we’ve become.”
Brian Molko and Rob Kirwan recreated the album from the original tapes, with mixing by Adam Noble.
Upcoming Shows and 30th Anniversary Tour
The announcement follows a one-off performance March 28 at London’s Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust alongside Garbage, plus an April 11 slot at Zermatt Unplugged in Switzerland.
The 30th anniversary tour launches September 28 with two Portugal dates, spanning Europe through December. UK and Ireland stops include Nottingham, Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester, London, and Cardiff.

These plans build on teases from late last year for major 30th anniversary celebrations. The debut album peaked at Number Five on the UK charts. Placebo previously marked their 20th anniversary with a 2016 tour reviving tracks like ‘Pure Morning’ after nearly a decade away from stages. Their most recent album, ‘Never Let Me Go’, arrived in 2022.
