Significance of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, stands as a sacred period. Muslims believe the Quran was first revealed from heaven to earth during this time, serving as guidance, direction, and salvation for believers.
The Practice of Fasting (Roza)
Observants rise early for Suhoor, a pre-dawn meal around 4:45 a.m., then fast without food or water until sunset. They offer five daily prayers: Fajr at dawn, Zuhr midday, Asr afternoon, Maghrib at dusk, and Isha at night.
The fast breaks after Maghrib prayer, often after 6 p.m.
Eid Festivities and Acts of Charity
Eid al-Fitr concludes Ramadan with family gatherings, shared feasts, gift exchanges, and aid to the needy. Fasting forms one of Islam’s Five Pillars.
